Know What You're Voting For

A couple of us had an interesting argument discussion with a woman in a Conservative Club this week who didn't actually, er, support the Conservatives. Her attitude was that the Conservatives don't do anything for her. It would be a bit cheap and easy to point out that one thing the Conservatives are doing is indirectly helping her to have a social life by allowing her to play bingo in their club.

Anyway, she was smitten by the Greens. Most people seem to like their regular newsletter. Due to the British public's apathy towards politics most parties, contrary to the public perception, are now often operating with tiny teams and slim funds and the Greens have been successful in targeting their limited resources on the small geographic area of Farnley and Wortley. Unfortunately, our small team has to cover upwards of 60,000 households in West and Central Leeds and we simply can't deliver a leaflet to everybody. This does not mean the we take your vote for granted.

If reporting broken streetlamps and paving stones is your thing then the Greens are probably for you, although you could perfectly easily do this yourself, but there are signs that when people vote Green they don't actually realise what they are voting for.

For example, when we were out in the area last year there were two houses that had "Vote Green" posters in the windows. One of them had a Lexus parked in the drive and the other had two cars parked in the drive. When these people support the Greens do they realise that a Green government would probably make driving a Lexus or owning two cars illegal? Not to mention restricting when and where you can go on holiday.

Iain Dale recently posted a link to an article on a blog which compared the Greens to the BNP. To find out more follow this link...
